Day 02: Colombo

Learn to Cook Sri Lankan Rice & Curry

Today you will visit a Sri Lankan Home and get involved with the preparation of traditional Vegetable and Meat dishes along with Rice.

Enjoy lunch with the host and leave on a sight-seeing tour visiting the Gangarama Temple in the middle of the Beira lake – known for its famous architecture, a Hindu Kovil, the Old Capital of Sri Lanka –Jayewardenepura Kotte, the Parliament; visit the latest Art Theatre in the shape of a Lotus Flower – The NelumPokuna, the old Race Course now converted into a stadium which has many restaurants and shops.

Visit the Old Dutch Hospital (built by The Dutch), this is considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining precinct.

Head down to Gallery Café which is a perfect place for a lovely dinner

Gallery Café-Built by Geoffrey Bawa, is  a  fusion of Sri Lankan and  Modern cuisine.

Day 03: Colombo/ Galle

After breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Galle. (Southern Coast)

Tour the city of Galle. During this half-day tour you will learn about a quaint Sri Lankan tradition – ‘short eats’ on bicycle-mounted cabinets. Don’t be alarmed  if you hear the cry of ‘Maalu, Maalu’, it’s just the local fisherman selling his latest catch off the back of his bicycle.Have a stop at  food vendor carts,selling nuclear orange issovadei – spicy lentil cakes that have prawns either mixed in or balanced on top.  Meet the ‘thambili guy’ and quench your thirst with freshly plucked thambili or king coconut and drink right out of the shell of the coconut as it is famously done in Sri Lanka. Tour the Galle fort, the light house, old town of Galle and its fortification.


Have lunch at Peddlers Inn Situated on the historic Pedlar’s Street at the heart of the Fort. Pedlar’s Inn provides the perfect respite to a busy day’s exploration of the Ramparts or indulging in the numerous shops and boutiques. Please pay direct.

The menu offers a mouth-watering array of salads, sandwiches, seafood, main courses, local delicacies and desserts. The drinks list is equally enticing with freshly made fruit juices, iced teas and fantastic Italian coffee.

Day 04: Galle

Visit the Galle market early morning, and select the choicest food for your lunch with the aid of your culinary guide. Proceed to the hotel kitchen, where you can enjoy a cooking demonstration, followed by a delicious traditional Sri Lankan food (rice and curry cooked in clay pots).fish

The cooking course teaches you how to make some traditional Sri Lankan favourites, including pol (coconut) sambol and Ambultiya (a Sri Lankan  traditional Fishcurry)-Initially this AmbulThiyal dish was made in Ambalangoda and become a classic signature dish of Sri Lanka. The specialty of this dish is it will last up to one week in room temperature. The tamarind which is used to prepare for this dish is unique, we call it “Goraka” this tamarind acts as a preservative and keep this Ambulthiyal last long. This Clay pot fish is also used to serve during New Year with Kiri Bath.

Your lunch will be a traditional Sri Lankan Rice & Curry meal.

Day 06: Kandy

Morning Visit the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha.

The sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka in 4th Century AD and was enshrined within Kandy’s sacred DaladaMaligawa also known as the

Temple of the Tooth. This is a magnificent temple with decorative walls and a gold plated roof.

Then explore the vegetable market near the lake, very lively and though sometimes full of pushy vendors, the diversity of products and the atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit.

sl foodCome back to your hotel and start dinner preparations with the chef. This enables you to take part in the preparation of the Dinner dishes such as String Hoppers and Hoppers, inspired by Sri Lankan tradition and seasonal ingredients.



Day 07: Kandy/Departure

Transfer to the airport in time for your departure

Your culinary tour concludes. Return home with great memories and new experiences.
